The American <a href="http://pbma.grobbel.org/polar_bear_zoo.htm" rel="nofollow">"Polar Bear Expedition"</a> was primarily composed of troops from Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota and one suspects the logic was that they - like the Canadiens - would be better acclimated to cold weather.
